COURT PLASTERS - TO COVER BLEMISHES
c. 1910Each consists of a firm outer envelope and an insert of a piece of light card, folded and enclosing Indian rubber adhesive plasters. These inserts have a silk tassel for easy removal from the envelope.
A) Envelope has label, "MAW'S Waterproof COURT PLASTER which does not wash off. PINK. S. Maw, Son and Sons Ltd, London, England, Size 2." Inner folder has on one side: "Directions. Thoroughly damp the dull side until the plaster is soft and pliable. Then slightly moisten the bright side and press on the skin with any soft fabric. S. Maw, S and & Sons Ltd, Aldersgate St, London and Barnet." Other side reads "'Parex' Regd. Dental Cream. A mildly flavoured, antiseptic dental cream. Pleasant and economical to use." Inside are remains of a plaster with a piece cut out. Pink silk tassel.
B) Outer envelope torn open on two sides and inner folder buckled and separated from damp. No plasters inside. One face of envelope reads: "Tri-Coloured India Rubber Court Plaster, Warranted not to wash off. W. MATHER, Ltd., London and Manchester." The back of the envelope has a coloured drawing of a little girl, blindfolded, with a slate and a long pipe. She is dressed in white and blue.
C) Outer envelope covered with purple paper patterned with stylised fleur-de-lis. Front has label "Centennial Tri-coloured Court Plaster. Prepared by Seal and y & Johnson, New York, U.S.A., New York, London and Hamburg." Coloured drawing of an eagle and a shield with Stars and Stripes. Inner folder has remains of one plaster, and yellow silk tassel.
