The Ancient Order of Forresters originated in Leeds, England in 1834 and in Victoria, Australia in 1849. Originally a not for profit organisation, whose mission was to provide financial and social support to members and their families in times of hardship, particularly during the Depression and both World Wars. The societies local branches are called "courts" rather than lodges.
