Small Metal Tin containing Rosary Beads with Crucifix
Olive wood rosary beads with small chain links joined in two arms to a small metal disc featuring the Virgin Mary on the obverse with Mary as the Queen of the Carmelites on the reverse with two (2) children, one with a halo (Jesus?) who is holding two (2) ‘scapulaire’ or tokens of devotion. Known as the ‘Brown Scapular’ these are a sacramental symbol of Mary and her devotion to Jesus and the Church. More beads descend from the metal disc, leading to a cross with a metal figure of Christ and metal backing on the reverse of the cross. All beads are joined by small metal links. The small metal case containing the beads shows evidence of tarnishing and scratches, along with two (2) small dents on the outside of the base. There are two (2) small extrusions on the sides of the case enabling it being opened.
Rosary beads are used by Catholics during prayer and meditation and are divided into decades to guide users through traditional prayers.
