SHOULDER INSIGNIA; 1 WAV
1895Shoulder insignia, made of silver or stainless steel and containing the lettering 1WAV in a diamond formation with the "1" at the top, "WA" in the middle and "V" at the bottom.
The letters are joined, possibly having been soldered, to comprise a unit.
Small loops of copper have been soldered at the back of the insignia to enable sewing onto a uniform.
The insignia received the following description when it was displayed: "The silver epaulette shoulder insignia, is for the First Volunteer Infantry Regiment, Western Australia, 1895. Members of this regiment would have seen service in the Boer Water, 1900."
