Ship Fender

Subcollections
Overview

This hand made ship fender is made of nylon cord, wood, corks and a plastic float. A ship fender is a cushion, that hangs between a boat and a dock or between two boats to lessen shock and prevent chafing.

Historical information

Historically, fenders were knotted from rope in a variety of patterns and shapes. Often damaged lines would be used for this, because they could not be used to safely moor a ship or carry a load anymore.
