1978A typical tourist purchase in mid 20th Century, made of pina cloth from the pineapple plant.
Singapore was a favourite tourist destination by ship for many West Australian in mid 20th century.
This was one of a set of 6 place mats. Only one kept.
Beige pina cloth, with simple floral applique design in cotton fabric in primary colours.
Buttonhole stitch in black cotton thread to attach applique and a few French knots in flower centre.
Small sections of background fabric between the applique elements have been cut away.

Sabrina work took over from Jacobean and Crewel embroidery.
