Overview

A sepia photograph on beige cardboard of a two storey brick building, the outside of the first floor has four sections. The first section has two windows with arched tops, the second section has a square window, an arched window and then another square window. Theses two sections are then repeated in the third and fourth sections. There is a wooden verandah along the entire length of the building. Along the top of the verandah are signs indicating the types of goods sold and there is a triangular larger sign in the middle with the name of the store. The verandah is supported by wooden posts. There are a group of men dressed in suits, long trousers, ties and hats and the women are dressed in long skirts and are wearing long sleeved blouses. There are two women looking out the window at the left of the triangular sign.

Inscriptions and markings

From left to right the signs at the top of the verandah are 'CLOTHING BOOTS SHOES', 'DRAPERY', 'MILLINERY', 'EST 1880' MERCHANTS & IMPORTERS', 'EST 1880' GROCERY', 'HARDWARE','FARM &STATION'. The last sign is illegible.
On the triangular sign above these signs and in the middle of the building is written 'UNIVERSAL PROVIDERS RICHARDSON & CO'
At the very top middle of the building is 'F & C PIESSE'
