1975 Western Australian Claxton Shield team baseball cap
A 1975 Western Australian State baseball team cap in the State colours. The cap crown is of yellow cotton fabric with a yellow top button. It is lined with cream cotton material. Embroidered in black thread on the front of the crown are the letters 'WA'. The cap visor is covered in black cotton fabric and lined with green cotton material. On the lining of the visor, written in pen, are the initials of the cap's owner.
The 1975 Australian national baseball competition was the 36th Claxton Shield Series. It was contested at Oriole Park in Sydney, New South Wales from 10-19 January. Competing states were Victoria, South Australia, New South Wales, Western Australia and Queensland. Western Australia won the Shield for just the second time, after their first championship win in 1952.

This Western Australian State baseball cap was donated to the Baseball WA Museum & Archives by Don Butler. Don was a member of the victorious 1975 Claxton Shield Series team, his fifth time representing Western Australia in the Australian baseball championships.
This cap has historic and social significance as part of a player's uniform from the Western Australian Claxton Shield champions team. It is in good condition and has impeccable provenance.
