NEW ZEALAND RIFLE BRIGADE CAP BADGE, WW1

Subcollections
Overview

Brass cap badge of the New Zealand Rifle Brigade.
Featuring a lion holding a pennant flag above the words: "Soyes Ferme".

Historical information

'SOYES FERME' on the badge means Stand Firm.
Worn under the shoulder (a practice unique to Rifle Brigades) and was used to distinguish battalions.
Donor, Esma/Esme Berryman (born 1923) was the daughter of Alice Matilda Markey (nee Chitty) and William James Markey, so the badge is likely to have some connection with a member of one of these two local Toodyay families.
