RISING SUN COLLAR BADGE
1904 - 1949Rising sun hat badge made from a metal that looks like brass.
Worn by soldiers of the 1st and 2nd Australian Imperial Force in both World Wars.
Three elements to the insignia:
1) Sun's Rays (13)
2) A Crown
3) Motto inscribed with the words 'AUSTRALIAN COMMONWEALTH MILITARY FORCES' set on a ribbon/banner beneath the crown and sun's rays. There is a metal loop and pin on the reverse of the badge.
Donor, Esma/Esme Berryman (born 1923) was the daughter of Alice Matilda Markey (nee Chitty) and William James Markey, so the badge is likely to have some connection with a member of one of these two local Toodyay families.
