This was the first series in the history of the game to be promoted by a League playing summer baseball, as all Australian States, other than Western Australia, continued to play baseball as a winter sport. If the series was successful it was expected other States would be influenced to make the change from winter to summer and so enhance Australia's prospects for overseas competition. W.A. was also the first to have independent Chief Umpires in charge of each game.
The 1967 series was also the first Australian Championships to feature a home run line of advertising boards measuring 16ft by 4ft placed round the home run of the diamond from third to first base lines.
