Scripture Union gold tone metal and enamel membership brooch
c. 1950Gold tone metal and translucent green sunburst enamel Scripture Union membership badge. It is octagonal in shape and has a gold border and a central gold oil lamp with a lit flame coming from the spout which symbolises the "lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path" from Scripture.
The reverse has a pin clasp for attachment.
The maker's details are impressed onto the reverse.
During wartime, Scripture Union (SU) historically provided spiritual morale and pastoral care by publishing specialised booklets of daily Bible reading notes for troops serving in the trenches.
Most of these stick pins and badges were produced by H.W. Miller Ltd in Birmingham and featured the letters 'S.U. (Scripture Union) in gold letters above the lamp. However, the three examples held in the collection are missing the letters and one was made in Australia.
