ORAL HISTORY (AUDIO): WINCH, JESS, 1983
1983Jess Winch, nee Lander, was born in Kalgoorlie in 1905. With her family, she later moved to Subiaco, where they lived in Raphael Street and ran a shop on Hay Street. From 1914 she attended Subiaco school and church. In this interview, Jess discusses her experiences of school and church in Subiaco, and talks about her marriage to her employer, clothes, the War, the depression and her experiences working for the Lady Mitchell Emergency Housekeeper Scheme for Women on the Land.
The Subiaco Museum also holds the oral histories of three of Jess’ sisters, Eulie Broome, Trixie Day and Jean Howl.
