RADIO: HOTPOINT BAND-MASTER MANTEL RADIO IN BAKERLITE CASE
Mantel radio in an oblong brown bakelite case with rounded side. There is a grid pattern of bakelite backed by an open-weave fabric at centre front. The dial juts forward below this. 'Hotpoint Band-master' is written in red letters at the top and frequencies and localities in yellow letters separated by red lines. The wave bands show all the states, plus New Zealand [grouped with Queensland]. There is a bakelite knob on either side of the dial. The back of the radio is open, showing its valves etc. A diagram of the internal wiring system is pasted on the inside. The serial number 00014495 is stamped below. There is a flex attached to a power plug. Moulded plastic radio cabinets were first introduced in about 1933 in competition with wooden cabinets and by 1950 had captured the entire market.
