ARMADALE AQUATIC CENTRE POOL CHEMICAL SCALES

c. 1957
Overview

The scale consists of a large heavy rectangle at base, with 4 cast iron wheel attached at each corner. Attached on top of the base is a removable panel. At the back of the frame is a curved metal frame back support that connects to a large cast iron post. At the top of this post is an arm pointing to the viewers right where the weights are attached.
The scales use the pounds weight system.

Historical information

These scales were originally used at the Kelmscott Pool between 1957 and 1980 to measure the weight of chlorine cylinders. The cylinders sat on the scales while they were connected to the pool pump and filtration system. The scales would be used to inform staff when the cylinders were empty. Some time in the 1980s the scales were moved to the Armadale Aquatic Centre even though the pool new filtration and pump system no longer required them.

This collection of items was used at the Armadale Aquatic Centre. The Aquatic centre was opened in December 1980 and was closed in 2017 to make way for the new Armadale Fitness and Aquatic Centre which was opened in 2019. There items were collected as they represent the important role played in the social life of the local community and what was involved for a local government in running a public pool.
