Overview

The Type CRI-43044 Transmitter-Receiver is a unit of the TBY-4 Radio Equipment built under contract NXss-14329 for the Navy Department- Bureau of Ships. The Australian Army encountered this radio in Papua/New Guinea, and the South-West Pacific Theatre both on land and in the ships of General MacArthur's Small Ships Section known colloquially as the Rag-Tag Fleet.

Historical information

This radio was manufactured for the Navy Department - Bureau of Ships by the Colonial Radio Corporation located in Buffalo , New York . This is the same type of radio used by the USMC Navajo code talkers in WW-2 and as depicted in the 2002 movie "Windtalkers". This radio is one of a few models of the TBY-4 radio transmitter-transceiver. Originally produced in 1941 and used by Navy and Marine Corps personnel as a backpack portable radio.
