Meter, Field Strength ME-61/GRC. Field strength meters are used for a number of purposes, but the key one is to tune up radios after they are configured on a new frequency.

The Field strength meter is in a waterproof case. Its testing range is1.5 to 24 MHz for use as transmitter tuning indicator with GRC radio sets (e.g. AN/GRC-9). It has a 16-inch antenna that comes up out of the box
This device is located in the Communications Gallery commissioned by the Australian Army Museum of Western Australia as part of the Centenary commemorations of the Royal Australian Corps of Signals in the broader context of the evolution of communications technologies. Communication devices used by the Australian Army also are presented in their operational context throughout the Museum.
