Historical information

The Calremotn Police & Citizens' Youth Club was originally run in a corrugated iron army hut which was rebuilt next door to the existing Scout Hall in Davies Road opposite the Claremont Oval, i.e. current site of Aquatic Centre. While the entrance was level with the road, the slope of the ground meant that the back was elevated on high stumps. The club later moved into the Swanbourne Picture Theatre in Railway Parade and then to old MTT bus depot adjacent to the Oval and bordered by Graylands, Lapsley and Davies Roads. In spite of name, girls participated in a number of activities even before the organisation became the Police and Citizens Youth Club (PCYC) to reflect its wider membership and activities.
