BSHS Girls Hockey 1965
1965A studio portrait and a page of team lists of the 1965 Bunbury Senior High School's girls hockey teams.
Back: Jacqueline Pettit, Vicki Carthew, Wendy Gibson, Virginia O'Brien
Sitting: Jan Roberts, Sue Campbell (Captain), Aileen Torrance (Coach), Jenny Yates, Gae Brodie
Front: Lee Campbell, Faye Allen
Absent: Robin Field (Vice Captain)
Wendy Gibson (goalie): In her first year in A grade has made many good saves and with more experience should develop into a capable goalie.
Jacqueline Pettit (right full-back): Has played some good games during the season. However, as a new member of the team, still needs to combine better with the other players. Conscientious in attending training and tries hard.
Virginia O’Brien (left full-back): Has a good clearing hit if time available, also needs to watch tackling. Concentration sometimes wavers, but when really involved is a mainstay in defence.
Jenny Yates (right half-back): A very determined player who tackles well; hitting has improved during season. Jenny is often referred to as our “wet weather” player and excells in such conditions.
Jan Roberts (centre half-back): Plays her position well, backs up the forwards, although is inclined to go too far into the forward line at times. Has a good defensive tackle and can swing the ball well.
Vicki Carthew (left half-back): Has had an outstanding season. With her speed and determination she tackles well and has a very powerful hit which she uses to advantage. Fairest and best player during Country Week is a fitting reward for her first year in the team.
Robin Field (vice-captain - left wing): Has managed the difficult left position with advantageous passes to the centre. Scored several goals with hard hits and flicks. Pleasant feature is help and encouragement given to the younger players.
Lee Campbell (left inner): The most improved 1st year player in A grade. Lee is very speedy, has good foot and stick work. However, must learn to keep her position and not try to play the half-back. Her unselfish support of entire team is perhaps her biggest weakness.
Faye Allen (centre forward): Determined player who follows in well in the circle. Her 1st year in this team, she has been the main goal scorer.
Gae Brodie (right inner): Has gained confidence as season progressed. Passes and combines well with the other forwards. A steady player, she should be a valuable asset to the team next year.
Sue Campbell (captain - right wing): Has been an outstanding captain and led the “inexperienced” team to a very satisfactory conclusion of the season. Sue attacks repeatedly but often takes the ball too far down to be of much advantage to the team. Has a very strong hit to left field and was an inspiration to the team in play.
