The Monday Old Boys Competition is run on most Mondays by a volunteer group that is largely independent from the club's Match Committee. Tee times commence late morning after the course staff have completed their major weekly maintenance work. A presentation to announce the winners then occurs later that afternoon.
The attached document 'The Bill Mitchell Trophy' describes how Bill Mitchell was the founder of this competition, some details of his biography and how the event has flourished over the years of its operation. In addition to the document’s content, in a conversation with Barry Simms (one of the original Old Boys) in 2025 he named the following members as the original men that competed in the Monday Old Boys:
Bill Mitchell, Barry Simms, Geoff Mutter, Ian Forbes, Bob Riach, Cess Spencer, Alan Scott, Keith Ainsworth, Cec Broom, Jack Katnic, and Jack Martin.
The attachment 'Monday Old Boys Competition Organisation 1989' was extracted from the Council of Management minutes. Prepared by Secretary Manager Fred Helfers, the extract details how the event fitted into the club's other golfing competitions.
