Women's Plate
1969 - 2012
This event was played from 1969 to 2012 during the Ladies' Championship and was known as the "Associates Plate".
The Plate was an opportunity for the ladies who don't qualify for the Gross Championship to play for the secondary trophy.
Until 1996 the winner was determined by one for the following formats, alternating each year.
Stroke Play
The plate was awarded to the best A Division Nett scorer over 72 holes.
Match play - the number of players qualifying depended on the number of entrants, but generally the format was:
Two qualifying rounds of 18 hole Stroke play.
The 8 top qualifiers (A Division) played match play for the Championship (no handicaps)
The next 8 qualifiers played match play (handicaps applied) for the Plate. Quarter finals and semi finals consisted of 18 holes each match play (or to a decision).
The Final round of Match Play was played over 36 holes for the Championship and the 'A' Plate.
From 1997 to 2012 the trophy was only awarded in the alternate years when the Match Play format was played. Therefore no winners appear on the trophy in the years of stroke play.
From 2013 onwards the Ladies' Match Play Championship (Nett) replaced this event. Winners of the Match Play from 2013 onwards are recorded against this event.
