BROWN KNITTED LEFT GLOVE

Overview

Brown knitted full fingered left hand woollen glove. The glove was knitted using brown wool flecked with green. The underside is distinct from the top side by a pattern of horizontal stitches on the underside of the fingers, possibly done to prevent the glove prohibiting the wearer from playing an instrument. There is a large hole in the thumb.

Historical information

This glove is one of a pair knitted by Beryl Tyler for Bert Tyler, who wore them while performing with his band, Young Once in winter.

Statement of significance

Herbert 'Bert' Tyler was an active member of the City of Armadale community from 1976 through to his death in 2017. Bert, Beryl and their children moved to Kelmscott in 1976 onto a block of land big enough for Bert to build a shed where he could indulge his passion for restoring machinery. It was around this time Bert joined the Machinery Preservation Club of Western Australia, an organisation that he would eventually become a life member off.
