ENVELOPE - FILM DEVELOPMENT AT ARMADALE PHARMACY

Overview

A rectangular beige envelope with white panels and black text. On the front of the envelope is a white panel with black printed text which includes the business name and spaces for the customer to fill in their contact details, i.e. name, date address and any special instructions. These sections have been filled in with blue pen. In the special instruction section a small square orange sticker has been attacked upside down saying [TWIN / PRINT].
At the top of the envelope is the opening with a flap that folds down over it. There is text and a white box divided into 9 smaller boxes on the flap.
On the back of the envelope is a white form with boxes outlining customer requests for ordering photographic reprints and enlargements.

Historical information

A Halse photograph envelope from Armadale Pharmacy on Third Road in Armadale. The pharmacy was owned by Mr M.A. Lewis and the photographs were developed for Mrs Whologan. Before digital cameras and camera phones which became popular in the early 2000's photographers would often drop film of at local chemists who would develop it for them and print the images.

Statement of significance

HIGH
The envelope would have held photo's taken by Mrs. Wholagan. The photographs were developed at Armadale Pharmacy located on Third Road in Armadale.
The envelope represents the changing photographic technology used by people before digital cameras became popular and affordable and then quickly ended the film development business located in many towns and commercial centres. The envelope is also a part of Armadale's commercial history representing businesses that have provided services for the COA community.
