Presentation ball from the 1984 Los Angeles XXIIIrd Olympiad
1984A boxed presentation baseball from the 1984 Los Angeles XXIIIrd Olympiad made of white leather with blue and red stitched seams. The ball is stamped in blue with the logo of the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics which consists of three interconnecting five-pointed stars made of up 13 horizontal lines. Beside them is the ™ (trade mark) symbol and below is the copyright symbol and the five Olympic rings.
Inside the box is a red plastic display stand.
Baseball was included in the 1984 summer Olympics as a demonstration sport. It was the first time that the sport was officially included in the program. At five previous Olympics it had been played as exhibition games. Eight teams competed in Los Angeles, California: Canada, Chinese Taipei, Dominican Republic, Italy, Japan, Korea, Nicaragua and the United States. Games were played at Dodger Stadium. As a demonstration sport, no official medals were awarded. The winners of the semi-finals played each other for first and second place, with Team Japan taking the gold medal and the United States in second place.
