Gumnut Figure, Swagman with Pencil

Overview

Brown, gum nut figurine sitting on a thick, rectangular wooden stand. A gum nut figure stylised as a swagman serves as an ink or pencil stand. The stylized swagman has a Banksia nut body and gumnut head with another nut as a hat with small beads hanging from it. The wooden base is lacquered with words engraved on the surface 'Compliments of/GUMNUT FACTORY/WANNEROO. W.A.' Two gum nuts on the right of the stand are glued in place and function as a pencil holder. Yellow coloured, wooden lead pencil. The pencil has a gumnut attached to the end. The gum nut has a smaller nut on top and two plastic goggle eyes have been glued to the surface of the larger nut.

Historical information

Gumnut Factory in Wangara, the shop/factory was originally on Buckingham Drive before moving to Prindiville Drive. In 2003 the factory closed and moved to the Swan Valley. The shop in the Swan Valley closed in 2006 and the manufacturing ceased in March 2007. The Gumnut Factory was a local attraction in Wanneroo and one of the first businesses in the Wangara Industrial Park.
