Photograph of Mary Ann Cream
c. 1852Sepia studio portrait of a seated woman wearing a bonnet and shawl. The photograph is in poor condition, being faded and has suffered from insect damage.
Mary Ann was born in 1828, the daughter of John Cussen and Mary Ann Quinn. Married Timothy Cream at Marylebone, London on 12/02/1846. She came to WA with her husband and one daughter on the Sophia, arriving 1853. He was a labourer and they settled at Greenough, where she gave birth to another 7 children. Timothy died at Greenough in 1863. Mary was left with six surviving children (the oldest only 16).
She married (2) James Smith at Geraldton on 3/02/1867. Children: William & Henry b.&d.1869, James Joseph b.1873, Mary Ellen b.1874.
Mary died at Rudds Gully in 1895.

This photo would have been taken in London before Mary and her husband came to Western Australia.
It is the oldest identifiable photo we hold in this collection.
