IRON
Clothes iron, made from cast iron, with upright metal funnel bent to right.
Lever on top, opening at bottom rear side.
Number 6 on the top.
Originally had a wooden handle; however only the metal inner remains today.
At the rear is another regulator for incoming air but this is rusted up.
The body consists of two castings that have been joined together at the rear by a rivetted hinge.
The lever attached to the body is used to regulate the draught from the fire, which was made with coal or charcoal.
This type of iron was called a sad iron due to its weight.
Estimated date is pre 1900.
