'Russian Flag Day' letter 1916
1916A letter of appreciation sent to a Miss C.Irons of Slough by the 'Russian Flag Day' committee following her assistance in raising funds on 'Russian Flag Day, 6 May 1916.
The letter is typed in purple ink on stiff cream coloured paper. The logo of the group is across the top in large black letters, either side of which is a colour depiction of the Russian flag and the Russian Red Cross flag - featured on the small paper flags to raise money for the cause. The mission statement is written in black beneath the name at the top. Below that are quotes from Mr. Asquith and Earl Kitchener.
Down the left hand side are the names of people occupying positions on the General Committee - politicians, Earls, Lords, Lord Mayors, Mayors and other gentlemen of high social standing. Below this are the names of the honourable treasurer and secretaries.
The letter is signed by the Honorayr Organisers from Colnbrook and Slough.
According to the Museum of Liverpool, 'Agnes Morrison established 'Our Day' collections and created flag days in September 1914, within months of the outbreak of the First World War. In the same way that ribbons, flowers and stickers are given out today, charity street collectors during the First World War gave flag pins as a ‘thank you’ gift, to be worn on the lapel.
Colnbrook is a village in the Slough district in Berkshire, England.
