Historical information

Leather glasses case used by William Skeet who with his brother Alfred settled in Forrestdale in 1885 and was one of the early European settlers of that area. William died in 1918, aged 62.
He did not seem to have a family in Forrestdale besides Alfred who inherited his possessions and passed them on through his family.
The Apothecaries Company was a company originally located in England which sold medicines and health-related items. According to advertisements in WA papers, The Apothecaries Company had erected stores in Perth and Fremantle between 1892-1896. There is an advertisement for spectacles imported by the Apothecaries Company within the West Australian during 1896. It seems that they were available from 1a 6d. William might have purchased the spectacles with said glasses case at one of these stores.
The glasses case was handed down to Lilian Ursula Skeet, daughter of Lillian Maude and Alfred Tunbridge Skeet. Ursula, as she was known, collected and looked after many of the family treasures.
