Celluloid doll depicting an R.A.F. airman
c. 1940World War Two era celluloid doll or figurine of an R.A.F. airman in the style of British artist, Mabel Lucie Attwell.
He is wearing his pale blue uniform and side cap. He has a matching shirt with dark blue tie beneath his tunic. His buttons and belt buckle are gold and he has black shoes.
One hand is held behind him and the other is touching his tunic pocket. He has blonde hair parted on the side, brown eyes and red lips.
The whole figurine is made from moulded lightweight plastic (celluloid). It is very fragile and has a couple of cracks, dents and holes. Some of the paint has also worn off.
Mabel Lucie Attwell (4 June 1879 – 5 November 1964) was a British illustrator and comics artist. She was known for her cute, nostalgic drawings of children which were supposedly based on her daughter, Peggy.
Her drawings are featured on many postcards, advertisements, posters, books and figurines, such as this one.
