c. 1930Circular fundraising badge or button sold to support the 'Wattle Day for Children' appeal c.1930. It is made from printed paper between a tin base and celluloid cover.
It features a central depiction of an Australian kookaburra on a thin branch, its tail elevated and beak open as if singing. The background is a pale blue green colour. The words 'Wattle Day for Children' are written around the top in black letters.
The badge has a broad, colourful border of yellow dots and green leaves representing wattle foliage, on a black background.
The reverse has a shiny silver metal back with a void into which a metal pin is secured for attachment.
Fundraising badges such as this were sold in trams, buses, at railways stations and at rallies to raise money for the stated cause.
Proceeds raised by the 'Wattle Day for Children' button day would have been distributed to children's charitable institutions.
