Historical information

George Cooper's father, George Cooper Snr who hailed from Nottinghamshire, arrived at Fremantle with his family in 1856. George was born in Claremont and was apprenticed to his father as a boat builder. Later he worked for Chamberlain's Boat Building Enterprises in Fremantle. He married Emily Chamberlain. In 1910 he built the boat shed at 8 Victoria Avenue, Claremont where he constructed river craft and pearling luggers. As well as his boat building enterprise, George Cooper bought out the boat hire business which belonged to Mr JJ Vick {called 'Vix' Pleasure Boats} located at Claremont Jetty from 1905-1927.
