WWI patriotic propaganda game - 'Hang the...'
c. 1915Square wooden puzzle with a cream coloured section on the left featuring caricatures of the German Kaiser, Crown Prince and Von Tirpitz, and a larger black area on the right with embedded nails and a small red ear, eye and eyebrow. The words ''Hang the" appear in large red and black writing in a cream box within the black area. A long piece of string extends from beneath the puzzle. A set of gallows are depicted on the right with a chain extending down to where the string is attached.
The idea of the game is to wind the string around the nails to form the outlines of the German caricatures pictured.
The reverse gives the instructions for the game.
This is one of a number of British made and designed propaganda games released during the early part of WWI to improve morale on the home front.

"The GREAT NOVELTY PUZZLE
By taking the cord and allowing
it to touch or go round the correct
nails, a good likeness of the three heads
(separately) can be made.
Should the cord be wound round
or touch the wrong side of a nail it is
surprising what a different expression
is created.
Keep trying until you get them
