Overview

Two handwritten commissions dated 8 December 1856 with seals affixed appointing AP Burt as Chief Justice in two jurisdictions, St Christopher (St Kitts) and Anguilla. The text is almost identical on both documents.

a) Appointment of AP Burt as Chief Justice of St Christopher. Single page, white paper, folded with the remnant of a green ribbon attached at the bottom and an embossed paper seal affixed to the front left. At top the document is headed "Saint Christopher".

b) Appointment of AP Burt as Chief Justice of Anguilla. Single page, folded with green ribbon attached to a paper seal affixed at bottom. At top the document is headed "Saint Christopher and Anguilla".

Historical information

These provisional appointments were made by the Lieutenant Governor of St Christopher [St Kitts] but were not confirmed by the Colonial Office in London upon the recommendation of the Governor of Antigua (the Lt. Governor's immediate superior).
