Handwritten warrant by the Governor of Western Australia, Arthur Edward Kennedy, appointing Archibald Paull Burt as Chairman of the Court of Quarter Sessions in the colony of Western Australia. Dated 31 January 1861.
Presented on a single sheet of white paper, folded vertically into a book form. The warrant text appears on the front and inside left hand pages. At the bottom left of the second page a very faded official red seal (wafer seal -made of paper with embossed design) is affixed.

This document is the warrant from the Governor of Western Australia for Archibald Paull Burt to assume the role of Chairman of Quarter Sessions. This appointment was one of two promotions (the other was Civil Commissioner) offered at the same time to Burt who was born and up until then had been practicing in the West Indies. Burt went on to become a key figure in the development of law in the English tradition in Western Australia.
