Overview

Image: A photograph from a newspaper clipping of Bert Congdon working behind a counter at what appears to be a post office. Bert is handing cards to people waiting in a queue. The caption below the image reads, 'THE NATIONAL REGISTER STARTS: People in the General Post Office yesterday waiting to receive cards for the manpower and property censuses under the national register. All males between the ages of 18 and 65 years are required to fill in the manpower card and all persons possessed of assets of a capital value of not less than £500 will have to fill in the property card. All cards must be completed by July 29.'
