CLOCK, WALL - 'QUARTZ NO 0', FIRE DAMAGED

2011
Overview

Round, scorched wooden base survived the fire, the plastic face and mechanism has melted into a blob at the lower section of the base with a slender stalactite below.

Historical information

On the night of 13th of April arsonists attacked the Community Services building located in the Civic Precinct on Orchard Avenue. The offices were in a transportable building primarily made up of steel and plastics. The building was badly damaged forcing the staff to find other accomodation within the City of Armadale. The tragic thing about this event was that it was the staff in this department who had been assisting members of the local community affected by the Roleystone Kelmscott Bushfire which occurred in February 2011.
The building had suffered from an earlier unsuccessful arson attack that had caused some damage to one of the walls.

Statement of significance

This fire-damaged quartz wall clock holds strong historical and social significance for the City of Armadale. It was in use within the Community Services building located in the Civic Precinct on Orchard Avenue when the structure was destroyed in a deliberately lit fire on the night of 13 April 2011. The building, made primarily of steel and plastic, housed City staff who were actively supporting residents affected by the devastating Roleystone–Kelmscott bushfire that had occurred just two months earlier in February 2011.
