CLUBHOUSE REDEVELOPMENT CONCEPT 1990
1990In 1990 the club was considering options for developing the clubhouse. The attachments show aspects of a well developed proposal:
- A coloured artist's impression. This print appears on an A3 sized board.
- Two plans of the clubhouse layout. These are provided in the attached scans. The original plans have been discarded.
The club's Board of Management devoted considerable effort into the redevelopment. Architects were employed, sketches and plans were drawn, the Melville City Council was contacted, liquor licening authorities consulted, tenders were called, and loan fund plans were drawn up.
Despite that effort the club's members ultimately rejected the redevelopment at a vote in a General Meeting in November 1991. There were several other large expenses that the club incurred around that period including the replacement of the irrigation main line, construction of a new course maintenance shed, and upgrades to machinery to meet health and safety standards. These expenses and the proposed cost of the clubhouse extensions were the main reasons why the proposal was rejected.
The plans are retained in the archive for their curiosity value, reflecting the vision that the club's Board had at that time.
