This sign was created by the City of Armadale and was placed at the entrance of History House from March 23 to June 9 2020. During this time the museum was closed as per the public health instructions from the Western Australian Government relating to the spread of the Covid-19 virus. The museum reopened on June 9th to limited hours.
Covid 19 is a strain of Coronavirus, not previously detected in humans and was first detected in mainland China in December 2019. Due to the fact it was a new virus, no community immunity existed causing a rapid spread of the virus in communities it came in contact with throughout the world.
In January 2020, Australia had it's first confirmed case of Coronavirus, with Western Australia having its first case in February 2020.
City of Armadale began taking part in lock down measures in the community under the guidance of the State and Federal governments guidelines in March 2020, shutting down community area and only allowing essential services to be opened. Gradual reopening started in late April 2020, with restrictions on gatherings and businesses gradually lifting in phases as dictated by the State government recommendations based on WA Health Department advice.
