Overview

This baseball was used in the first Australian Baseball League game played on October 28th 1989. It is inscribed with the date, names of the two competing teams, the final score, the number of innings played and signatures of the three base umpires. It is a Diamond Ace Major League baseball made of white leather with red stitching on the seams. Inscriptions on the ball are in blue ink. The ball is stained with the red-ochre of the dirt from the baseball diamond.

Historical information

Before the formation of the Australian Baseball League in 1989, the Claxton Shield, established in 1934, was Australia's premier baseball tournament. The final Claxton Shield competition was held in 1988 by the Auburn Baseball Club in New South Wales at its home ground of Oriole Park. Soon after, the Australian Baseball League was formed, with eight teams from around Australia.
