Overview

A signed match baseball from a 1986 America's Cup Festival of Sport baseball game, held in Perth, Western Australia. The official International Baseball Association ball is made of white leather with red stitching on the seams. Handwritten in blue ink are the name of the tournament, the date, the competing teams and the final score, as well as the signatures and names of the officiating umpires.

Historical information

Between September 1986 and March 1987 a Festival of Sport was held in Perth, Western Australia to complement the America'a Cup yachting series held in Fremantle during January and February of 1987. Thousands of competitors took part in the sporting festival, in a wide array of sports, including baseball, cricket, athletics, hockey, basketball, squash, golf, racing, trotting, cycling, football, lawn bowls, karate, kick-boxing and boxing competitions and a world sprint car championship.

The international round robin baseball tournament was held at Parry Field Baseball Park between the 8th and 15th of December 1986. Competing teams were Chinese Taipei, Japan, USA and Australia, with Japan winning the tournament.
