Contextual Information
A number of Rifle Clubs were formed by the employees of private businesses and government departments. Most merged with regular clubs in the 1920's. The Cup was repurposed for cricket competition by the Wholesale Soft Goods club which was a member of the Perth Mercantile Cricket Association (PMCA). The PMCA merged with the Metropolitan Cricket Association (MCA) in August 1997. The Wholesale Soft Goods club attracted employees from a number of companies.

Repurposed Trophy. The Wholesale Soft Goods Rifle Club Perth Presidents Trophy 1916 was repurposed (when the club merged with the Perth Rifle Club) and used by the Mercantile Cricket Association Perth Presidents Trophy 1922. Representations of Mark 6 rifles support the cup.
