WWI era photo découpage hand painted plaque in shape of paint palette
1918World War One era photo découpage hand painted plaque in the shape of a paint palette.
It features a photographic image of a seated soldier with his arms folded, wearing his uniform and cap, with a dog at his feet.
The photo has been pasted onto ta thin piece of plywood and then covered with varnish. The surrounds are painted with a circle of pink roses and green foliage resembling a wreath, enclosing a village scene - by a river edged with trees and houses in the background. Behind that is a larger depiction of a church.
The words 'Havre 1918' appear in a curve following the edge of the left hand side and the artists' name is written on the lower right hand side.
The reverse has been covered with paper which is advertising 'Chocolat Lombart'. Both sides may have been covered with paper, as some similar text is visible between the legs of the soldier.
This photo découpage hand painted plaque is in the style of Mon. Clady, but appears to have produced by another French artist, whose name could be Boekirke or something similar. No information has been found to identify the artist.
The shape of the item (a paint palette) and the use of paper-covered plywood rather than a slice of pine distinguishes it from the work of Mon. Clady.
