A 1969 newspaper article and black and white photograph from the December 8 issue of 'The Evening News' Sports section. The photograph shows the Australian catcher Dale Hughes as he dives to tag out Philippines player Codiñera Jr. at home plate, to qualify for the Asian Baseball Championship Federation.
Australia competed in the 1969 Tri-Nations Goodwill Baseball Series in the Philippines. It was the first Australian Team to make an official overseas tour. The tournament was held from December 29 to December 7 at the Rizal Baseball Stadium in Manila.

The newspaper article is a highlight from the first official overseas tour by an Australian baseball team. It is a rare, historical image which comes with impeccable provenance from the Western Australian team member shown in the image.
