Medals of the 1985 13th Asian Baseball Championship
A boxed set of three medals—gold, silver and bronze—from the 1985 13th Asian Baseball Championship. The medals were presented by The Right Honourable the Lord Mayor, Mr Charles F. Hopkins J.P., City of Perth. The presentation box has a dark blue felt exterior and is lined with white satin with the medals displayed on a red base. All three medals are embossed on the obverse with '13th Asian Baseball Championship Series Australia 1985' over a stylised outline of Australia and a baseball shooting upwards from a spot indicating the location of the host city Perth.
Embossed on the reverse of the medals is a Greek victory goddess holding aloft a laurel wreath while seated in front of a chariot race at the Roman Colosseum. Beside her are the Roman numerals XIII.
Accompanying the medals is a presentation card from The Right Honourable the Lord Mayor, Mr Charles F. Hopkins J.P. which bears the gold embossed crest of the City of Perth.
The 1985 Asian Baseball Championship was the 13th continental tournament held by the Baseball Federation of Asia. The tournament was held in Perth, Western Australia; the first time that the tournament had been held outside the continent of Asia. The tournament was won by Japan; their eighth Asian Championship.
China made their first appearance at the tournament—finishing 5th—and became the sixth team to contest the championship, while Philippines did not participate—the first time that one of the original four teams to participate had not appeared at the tournament. Defending champions South Korea (2nd), Chinese Taipei (3rd) and Australia (4th) were the other participants.
