Overview

The Western Australia Baseball Diamond All-Star Team 1934-2008 is displayed in a rectangular, black wooden frame with a gold-coloured inner trim. Within a central inner black rectangle are the coloured logos of 'Australian Baseball', 'Baseball WA', the '75th Claxton Shield 2009 Diamond Anniversary', and the 'West Australian Baseball League (Inc.)'. Also the names of the 22 Western Australian players and coaches are centrally displayed over a yellow background. Surrounding the inner rectangle are photographic vignettes of each player or coach, with their name printed below their image.

Historical information

The 2009 Diamond Anniversary Claxton Shield celebrated the first 75 years of the sport in Australia. The competition was held from 2 December 2008 to 8 February 2009 with the championship series held from 23 January to 8 February 2009. The Perth Heat won the tournament after defeating the New South Wales Patriots 3–2 in the third game of a best of three series, played at Baseball Park stadium in Perth from 6-8 February.

This Western Australia Baseball Diamond All-Star Team 1934-2008 accolade was presented by the West Australian Baseball League and the Australian Baseball Federation on 7 February 2009, to commemorate the Diamond Anniversary of the Claxton Shield.

Statement of significance

This framed accolade is a significant historical record of exceptional Western Australian baseball players and coaches throughout the first 75 years of the sport in Australia. Its aesthetic design incorporates images of all those honoured in name. The condition of the object is excellent and its provenance comes from the All-Star who owned it.
