Historical information

From a series of photographs taken by Ian Molyneux for the National Estate Survey of Subiaco in 1985.

The foundation stone was laid 17 December 1922, by the Governor, Sir Francis Alexander Newdegate, for a memorial to the fallen soldiers of WWI. It was built in 1923 to honour Subiaco residents who lost their lives in World War I.

The Clock Tower remains an important gathering place for Anzac Day and Remembrance Day ceremonies, bringing the community together to reflect and remember. Its design has been enhanced to improve versatility, allowing the space to comfortably accommodate larger gatherings while preserving its solemn and commemorative character. The place has historic and social significance representing community respect for ex-servicemen and women.

Originally erected in 1923 to commemorate the fallen of World War One, this Perth memorial now pays tribute to soldiers who fell in World War Two, Borneo, Korea, Malaya and Vietnam.
