Wedding Dress Skirt
c. 1896A cream satin skirt and train which is lined with stiffened orandie. Ornate lace at the hem of the skirt and around the bottom of the train. Gathering at the waist on cotton band. Small padded bustle is attached. Box pleats on front with French knots as a feature along the edge of pleats. Organdie rose buds feature along the gathered lace. Hook and eye fastening at the front opening.
Machine sewn and hand finished. it was worn by Charlotte Treloar Cochrane (Mrs. Garstone/Day's aunt by marriage) on her marriage to William Richard McQuarrie on the 23rd December 1896 at Christ Church Strathalbyn. The cream velvet ribbon for waist possible not original.
