Dancing Doll
1900A hand made wooden doll with swivel joints at the hips and knees. It is held together with nails through holes in the wood and the grooves are burnt. It has carved high heeled shoes on the ends of the legs. There is an angled hole in the back of body to fit a stick. The doll's face is painted white with black eyes, hair and red mouth, the nose is faded, and the shoes are black.
The hole in the back of the body was used to fit a stick which was then held by a person to make the doll dance. It was bought from England in or around 1900. It was used in England and Katanning. The attached story tells where the doll was made and how it was used.
