1957 Australian Baseball Championship Series programme
Programme for the Centenary of Baseball (1857-1957) Australian Baseball Championship Series held in Perth, Western Australia. The 20-page A5-size booklet has gloss paper covers. The front cover is yellow with white stripes and black lettering. A hand-drawn image depicts a baseball player sliding into base with the baseman receiving the ball in his glove. The back cover displays advertisements for Swansea bicycles and 'The Sunday Times' newspaper. The inside pages are black and white on plain paper.
The 1957 Australian Baseball Championship Series celebrated the centenary of baseball (1857-1957). The tournament, held in Perth, Western Australia from July 27 to August 4, was the 18th Claxton Shield Series, an Australian national championships. Competing States were New South Wales, South Australia, Victoria and Western Australia, with South Australia winning the Shield for the 4th time.

The inside pages include WA Baseball League office bearers, the Centenary of Baseball itinerary and match programme, player profiles, teams, and the history of baseball in WA.
This programme was donated to the Baseball WA Museum & Archives by the family of Ray Allen. Ray Allen was involved in baseball in Western Australia as a player for the Wests Baseball Club in the 1950s and as a stalwart of Little League in the Tuart Hill area for many years.
This programme has both historic and social significance as it celebrates the centenary year of the game of baseball. To paraphrase from the programme, the beginning of baseball is open to argument, however 1857 has become generally accepted as the date. This copy of the 1957 Centenary of Baseball Australian Championship programme is in good condition and adds to the Museum's programme collection.
